cultivating goes with primarily with plants not animals. Domestication would be a great word to go with animals

Really good point - made the change for 6th and 8th Grades. For 4th Grade, I changed it to "raising livestock." Thanks for that!

I see the problem. I just re-uploaded it and it seems to be working now. Can you check?

This visual could be improved by being all in English. The word wall image is half in English and half in Spanish.

This visual could be improved by adding the 1 branch of government that was under the Articles of Confederation. You could also include 9 of 13 states needed to pass most laws; 13 of 13 votes needed to amend the Articles of Confederation

10-12-24

Stephen Fleenor

Great recommendations, thanks! I was able to incorporate everything into the visual except amending the Articles of Confederation, so it might be worth mentioning that to students, or asking them to guess how many votes they think it took for the AoC to be amended.

Slide 7 is incorrect. After the attack on Pearl Harbor is when the US enters WWII, not when WWII begins

You're absolutely right, thanks for pointing that out! Made the change.

This visual could be improved by acknowledging who survived

11-11-24

Stephen Fleenor

This is really important feedback. I decided to only edit 7th Grade's visual since it adds complexity to an already-complex visual, and I focused on giving Susanna Dickinson a voice. You might also want to point out Joe to the students as the only male survivor. Also, a good alternative last question can be, "why do you think Santa Anna allowed some people to live at the Battle of the Alamo?"

This visual could be improved by correcting the percentage needed for a law to pass the Senate. In the US, most laws require 60% of the Senate to approve, not 50%.

09-06-24

Stephen Fleenor

Great point! Had to do some research on cloture votes - it might be worth verbally telling the students that some Senate votes are 50%, but many are cloture votes which need 60%.

It would be great if we could have the mini-visual for all ten amendments here!

11-28-23

Stephen Fleenor

It would, you're right! I'm still trying to figure out how to fit #3, #7, and #9 without overcrowding the visual. One good challenge would be to ask students to read them and try to show them as a visual!

This could be improved by not having a lit cigarette on here as well as getting rid of the smiling emoji which makes it look unprofessional

10-23-23

Stephen Fleenor

Thanks for this feedback, we're still trying to find an easily recognizable representation for tobacco and intention to eat other than a cigarette and a hungry emoji, respectively.

Thanks for the feedback! We'll be on the lookout for another depiction of eating, and of other recognizable tobacco products.

10-23-23

Stephen Fleenor

The lit cigarette is the best depiction we can find so far of a tobacco product that is comprehensible to students who have never seen a cigarette before.

This visual could be improved by changing the graphic for centralists and federalists. Centralists wanted the federal government to hold ALL the power and federalists wanted the federal government to share power with the states. This is wrong.

11-11-24

Stephen Fleenor

You're right, this visual implies they wanted to share, but retain the majority, of power. I've updated the visual - this should more accurately reflect their intentions. Let me know what you think!
