This week, we're back on the road to Houston for two conferences, ESC Region 4 Science Sensemaking in Action (10/21) and Texas Council for Social Studies (TxCSS) (10/22-24). We'll have our booth, and Julie is going to be giving two presentations:

Beyond Hands On: Turning Science Investigations in Science Sensemaking

How do we move students beyond simply doing science to actually understanding it? This session explores how hands-on investigations, intentional questioning, and academic discourse promote scientific sensemaking. Participants will leverage SEPs and RTCs to help students connect observations to scientific concepts and strengthen academic language.

Giving a Voice to Multilingual Students in the Social Studies Classroom

This session shows educators how to easily facilitate structured conversations, reading, and writing in the classroom, ensuring participation by all students. Using Nancy Motley's Talk, Read, Talk, Write, structure alongside rich visuals, these structured activities allow the space needed for students to think, process, and discuss Social Studies concepts with their peers while building comprehension and stamina in Reading.
