Science Educators: Have You Seen Our Morphemes Posters?

Academic science words are big and daunting, but that's often because they're made up of small, digestible parts. Understanding the meaning of common morphemes (prefixes, suffixes, and roots) is a skill that students can use over and over again when they encounter new words. That's why we created our morphemes posters. Whereas we recommend displaying VNG word wall visuals as part of a unit that changes when then the unit changes, these posters can be displayed all year.

When encountering a new word, have students try to guess the meaning by identifying its morphemes. For example, from the word "endocytosis," students can find "endo-" (within) and "cyt-" (cell), and infer that the word has something to do with within or inside the cell. The posters also include alphabetical headers so students can easily find the morphemes.
